The Blok HAKO brings the Japanese konro to your table: a handmade charcoal grill that cooks for two to four, set right in the middle of the meal or packed up for a picnic.
Fill the base with charcoal, light it, set the grill top in place and cook. Steaks, skewers and vegetables sizzle over the glowing coals while everyone gathers round, and the stainless steel grill top gives 434 sq cm of cooking space, 26 x 16.7cm. Compact as it is, the HAKO is robust enough for a professional kitchen, and chef Sat Bains uses one for live-fire cooking.
The vermiculite lining keeps the heat where it's needed, so the charcoal burns for longer, and the air vents let you fine-tune the temperature as you cook. Locator pins hold the grill top steady; it lifts off for cleaning, or to swap in a Blok skewer rack or the Mini Stack, which holds food on trays at different heights above the coals, with no tools or adaptors needed. The full steel body, made from stainless steel, seasons with use rather than wearing out.
The HAKO comes with its stainless steel grill top. It measures 33.5 x 23cm and 20cm high, and has built-in handles for moving it from the garden to the table. Each one is handmade by Blok in Derbyshire.
